How to schedule a Fediverse post

Four steps, about two minutes the first time. After that it's write, tweak, schedule.

    Create a token

    On Mastodon, open Preferences, then Development, then New application. Tick write:statuses and write:media, save, and copy your access token. Other servers have a similar page.

    Connect in Postoni

    Enter your server address, such as https://mastodon.social, and paste the token.

    Write the post

    Tailor it to the 500-character limit and attach images with alt text.

    Schedule it

    Pick a time and Postoni publishes the post and any replies.

Does Postoni publish automatically to the fediverse?

Yes. At the scheduled time Postoni uploads your images and creates the post on your server, followed by any replies.

How is this different from the Mastodon channel?

The Mastodon channel signs in with OAuth, which needs an app set up by your Postoni admin. The Fediverse channel uses a token you create yourself and works with more server software.

Which servers are supported?

Any server with a Mastodon-compatible API, including Mastodon, GoToSocial, Akkoma, Pleroma and Hometown.

What if my server allows more than 500 characters?

Postoni's counter uses 500 to be safe. Your server will accept longer posts if its limit is higher.
