How to schedule a Bluesky post

Four steps, about two minutes the first time. After that it's write, tweak, schedule.

    Create a Bluesky app password

    In Bluesky, go to Settings, then Privacy and security, then App passwords, and create one for Postoni. Never use your main password.

    Connect with handle and password

    Enter your handle and the app password in Postoni. If you host your own server, change the service URL too.

    Write within 300 characters

    Tailor the draft for Bluesky, add reply boxes for a thread, and attach images with alt text or a video.

    Schedule and cross-post

    Pick a time, add Threads or Mastodon if you like, and Postoni posts each version on schedule.

Does Postoni publish automatically to Bluesky?

Yes. Postoni signs in with your app password and publishes posts and threads at the scheduled time, no client left open.

What is the Bluesky character limit?

300 characters per post. For anything longer, add replies and Postoni will post them as a thread under the first post.

Why do I need an app password?

Bluesky doesn't offer sign-in buttons for third-party apps yet, so app passwords are the safe way to connect. They can be revoked at any time without changing your main password. Your account's two-factor sign-in isn't used for this connection.

Does Postoni work with self-hosted Bluesky servers?

Yes. When connecting, change the service URL from bsky.social to your own server's address and sign in as usual.
